Week 7 Review & Reflection

Review and Reflections

These 7 weeks flew by in the blink of an eye..

Through primary research (store visits), I have learnt and understood first hand how details on garments are constructed and recognized the different kinds of unique details in high-end labels.

By doing secondary research (websites, apps and books), I gained more exposure to the different kinds of details on garments all over the world and learnt about the numerous fashion vocabulary.

Last but not least, observational drawings and drawing flats are the most vital I feel, as they really allow me to understand where certain seams/stitch/darts are suppose to be placed and how I can apply these details to my own designs. Furthermore, it made me realise how important it is to illustrate clearly to ease in communicating my ideas on a garment. So really, practice is important.

Group Collection: Design of a collection using details my group found from Ion Orchard

To complete our final blog, my group used a combination of the unique details on garments we found at ion to do out a collection.
 My design
I took inspiration from the mutton sleeves and asymmetric wrapover from the Dior cardigan we found, as well as the HUGE gold shank buttons of the Burberry trench coat. This time, I transformed the asymmetric cardigan into an asymmetric tight fitting wrapover skirt with full gold shanks button to hold in place. As for the mutton sleeves. I simplified it as part of a long dress.

The dress can be worn on its own or with the wrapover to make it more edgy.

Hazyra's design

She made use of the box pleats on the hems of the Gucci dress to come up with a coat, and for the insides, she also was inspired by the knitted lurex blend skirt from Gucci.

Sherinn's design

For her design, she took inspiration from the lurex blend knitted Gucci skirt, except she decided to add in more colours to the blend.

Weekly Observations

Asymmetric Neckline Top
(Extracted from Lookbook : 'Nice Weekend' by Ava F.)

Below is what I imagine the bottom half to look like.

(S-T-W) From what I observe, asymmetric necklines/hems seem to be in trend for a while. I feel that it is a really fun and flexible garment to play with and I really admire people who can pull off such garments in any occasions. This makes me wonder and look forward to a day when I can wear or design such a piece.
